Lord, God, Author of Life and Source of Eternal Life:
Move the hearts of all our public officials and especially our President, to fulfill their responsibilities worthily and well to all those entrusted to their care.

July 16 is the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This is her promise: “Take this Scapular; whosoever dies wearing it shall not suffer eternal fire. It shall be a sign of salvation, a protection in danger....” The Brown Scapular, “the Garment of Grace,” is one of the oldest gifts from Mary. In 1251 Our Lady gave it to St. Simon Stock. Fr. Solanus Casey, OFM Cap (1870-1957) loved God by loving others, and others loved to be with him. People from many religions sought his company, counsel and compassion. He had a special love for the poor and unemployed. In 1926 a Detroit auto worker told him that Chevrolet had severe cutbacks in hours. He asked Father to make a bold move--to enroll the entire Chevy plant in the Seraphic Mass Association. Without hesitation Father agreed. The company received huge orders, workers went on overtime.
Let us call on Venerable Fr. Solanus, and pray this American-born priest will soon be beatified. July 31 will be the 52nd anniversary of his death. Click for additional info.

"To contemplate Christ involves being able to recognize Him wherever He manifests Himself in His many forms of presence, but above all in the living sacrament of His Body and His Blood. The Church draws her life from the Eucharist; by Him she is fed, and by Him she is enlightened. The Eucharist is both a mystery of faith and a 'mystery of light'" (Pope John Paul II, Servant of God, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, 6).
Prayer for Priests: Gracious God, grant us holy ministers of Your altar, who are careful and fervent guardians of the Eucharist, and call forth ministers of Your mercy, who, through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, spread the joy of Your forgiveness
St. John Vianney "spoke of the priesthood as if incapable of fathoming the grandeur of the gift and task entrusted to a human creature: 'O, how great is the priest! ... If he realised what he is, he would die. ... God obeys him: he utters a few words and the Lord descends from heaven at his voice, to be contained within a small host'. Explaining to his parishioners the importance of the Sacraments, he would say: "Without the Sacrament of Holy Orders, we would not have the Lord. Who put Him there in that tabernacle? The priest. Who welcomed your soul at the beginning of your life? The priest. Who feeds your soul and gives it strength for its journey? The priest. Who will prepare it to appear before God, bathing it one last time in the blood of Jesus Christ? The priest, always the priest. And if this soul should happen to die [as a result of sin], who will raise it up, who will restore its calm and peace? Again, the priest. ... After God, the priest is everything! ... Only in heaven will he fully realise what he is'. These words, welling up from the priestly heart of the holy pastor, might sound excessive. Yet they reveal the high esteem in which he held the Sacrament of the Priesthood. He seemed overwhelmed by a boundless sense of responsibility: 'Were we to fully realise what a priest is on earth, we would die: not of fright, but of love. ... Without the priest, the passion and death of our Lord would be of no avail. It is the priest who continues the work of redemption on earth. ... What use would be a house filled with gold, were there no one to open its door? The priest holds the key to the treasures of heaven: it is he who opens the door: he is the steward of the good Lord; the administrator of His goods. ... Leave a parish for twenty years without a priest, and they will end by worshipping the beasts there. ... The priest is not a priest for himself, he is a priest for you.'"
